When we purchased our Cottage on Beasley Lake in Waupaca, WI, we fell in love with its rustic Chain O’ Lakes cottage feel and immaculate lakefront views. We’ve lucked out this summer with exceptional weather for lakeside getaways. The days have been hot and the nights clear, which means we can spend all day on the water and evenings around the bonfire. A lakeside cottage in the woods is about as perfect a Fourth of July setting as they come. Our Cottage on Beasley Lake in Waupaca, WI was made for warm summer celebrations. Days are filled with boat rides and popsicles while the nighttime brings sparklers and s’mores. It’s the place of first swims, stories by the bonfire and family reuniting around the table. While gatherings are a little smaller this year, we’re still able to fill every corner of our home with memories and celebrate moments big and small.
We spend the majority of our lives in bed, which is precisely why we prioritize comfort in each bedroom at our Elsewhere homes. As most of us are housebound at this time, it seems especially appropriate to make our bedrooms feel like retreats. They should be sanctuaries where worries are unwelcome and the busyness of your day is left at the door. Beds shouldn't be used for working, overthinking or stressing. Instead, they should be spaces for decompressing, unwinding and escaping.

Adults aren’t the only guests who get a special experience when the stay at an Elsewhere home. We aim to bring magic and whimsy into every space, which is easy to do when children are innately more imaginative than we are. Our Madison Square Manor in Savannah’s Historic District is home to some of our favorite kids’ spaces. After adding little ones to our family, we gave new life to two of the existing rooms in our home to accommodate dress up, puppet shows, coloring and sweet dreams.
Savannah, GA is known for its dreamlike surroundings. Whether romantic or haunting, the city has a spirit that serves as the perfect backdrop for weddings, films and photoshoots. Our Madison Square Manor located in Savannah’s Historic District is not only available as a vacation rental for guests looking to relax and enjoy the city, it can be rented as a movie or photoshoot location as well. In fact, the home has already been used as a set for Ralph Lauren’s Summer Romance collection in 2019.
Each Elsewhere space has been curated to showcase the home’s surroundings and capture the history and feeling the cities in which they reside evoke. Our Madison Square Manor in Savannah’s Historic District sits on a city square lined with Spanish-moss draped trees. While the home is just steps from local eateries, cafes, boutiques, antique shops and a thriving community, time seems to move slowly here. Hustle and bustle aren’t words found in the locals’ vocabulary and that essence won’t be found in the walls of our home. The pace is as slow as the days are warm, which allows guests to drink in every moment they spend here. Each article of furniture and art in the Madison Square Manor has been thoughtfully handpicked to reflect just that.
Being safe at home during this time is a privilege the Elsewhere team does not take lightly. We truly value our ability to work remotely and be with our loved ones during this time. Quite frankly, making lists of “things to do at home during quarantine” feels frivolous and trivial when there are bigger issues happening in the world. However, from the start, our hope was to be an escape and provide content that feels like a retreat. If we can offer some free and cost-effective options to make your living areas feel more like a retreat as well, then SO BE IT, we’re going to do it. Social distancing has required us to get creative in the ways we commemorate life’s major milestones. Many have had to turn to virtual meetings, FaceTime and even greetings through windows for events like birthdays, engagement announcements or baby showers. NPR highlighted some of the ways in which folks are celebrating the most important moments in their lives in the time of COVID-19 quarantine.
Many of our friends have had to make the heartbreaking, but selfless decision to cancel or postpone their weddings in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent call for social distancing. As most weddings include 50 or more guests, couples are putting their most special day on hold to prioritize the well being of their loved ones. Our team at Elsewhere is hoping to provide a last-minute solution for those who still wish to exchange their vows in the Summer and Fall 2020 while remaining respectful of our collective goal of social distancing.
