Savannah, GA home renovation before and after

The last home renovation we shared was more of a make under than a makeover. However, our Madison Square Manor in Savannah’s Historic District is a full-on transformation. What started as a pink-and-red dollhouse above an antique store ended as a bright family home intended for rest. Below are unbelievable before and after photos of our Savannah, GA home renovation.

Before

“Subtle” isn’t a word we’d use to describe our Madison Square Manor when we first purchased it. Everything was grand in both scale and design. We were told that the previous owner had an eye condition that impacted her ability to comfortably look at certain colors. The two main colors that reportedly soothed her eyes were red and pink, which could be found in every room in the house. While the decor and overall design weren't our style, there were individual pieces we wanted to incorporate after the renovation. The home’s location and structure spoke to our history-loving hearts and we could instantly see the potential of this special space.

After

As is the case in nearly all of our home renovations, we believe in the power of paring back. We strive to maintain the structural and historical integrity of our homes while highlighting what makes each space special. Our first goal with Madison Square Manor was to brighten up everything. Fresh, white paint was used throughout. Windows were left drape-less to ensure the Savannah sunlight had every opportunity to shine through. The grand, floor-length mirrors from the previous owner stayed in place to reflect light in every room. A blend of modern furniture and antique accents gave the home our signature aesthetic. We implemented tones of creams, gold, pinks, blues and greens to keep the space soft and inviting. What was once a walk-in closet became an additional bedroom, what was once a ground-level antique store became an additional living space, what was once several disjointed offices/sitting rooms became open, functional bedroom suites to give guests more room for relaxation and rest. We made additional renovations to our courtyard and kitchen years later, which you’ve seen in one of our previous posts. The manor feels like home now more than ever.

Perhaps our most magical space, Madison Square Manor is the perfect home base for those hoping to soak up Savannah’s history, surroundings and local haunts (pun intended). Contact us today to schedule your stay in the heart of Savannah’s Historic District.
