Two Mini Renovations that Transformed our home in Savannah's Historic District
Small renovations that transformed our Savannah, GA home
We’re no strangers to finding properties with good bones that need complete overhauls. We’ve gutted the interiors of buildings, built from the ground up and completely started from scratch. However, some of our spaces simply need a little TLC to enhance their original beauty. We recently gave the courtyard and kitchen at our Madison Square Manor in Savannah, GA some love, which transformed those spaces to make them more cohesive with this historic home.
Courtyard renovation in our Savannah Historic District home
The courtyard at Madison Square Manor has always been a beautiful place for enjoying coffee in the morning or dinner with friends on a warm Savannah night. However, it was missing some elements that made gathering comfortable and inviting. We optimized the space by cleaning out the existing landscaping and removing the tiered plant beds. This gave us more floor space to add a built-in outdoor grill and refrigerator. One of the focal features in the space is the custom fountain that maintains the integrity of the historic home. While it’s new to us, the use of reclaimed materials allowed for the fountain to look as though it had been there long before the home was even built. The courtyard now allows more space for furniture that encourages relaxing and gathering with our closest friends and family.
Small kitchen renovation in our Savannah, GA home
The main kitchen at Madison Square Manor was something we always knew we’d want to tackle at some point. Its construction is simple and it housed functional appliances, but its heavy cabinetry and layout made the space feel even smaller and dimmer than it needed to be. Our goal was to brighten the space and maximize every Inch of the kitchen. We rearranged the layout of the appliances to make it more functional for our needs - the stove and oven are now on the left side of the kitchen and the sink was moved to be near the dishwasher and refrigerator (which is now built into the cabinetry). We removed the upper cabinets and installed floating shelves to open up the wall and showcase the kitchen’s tall ceilings. Accent lighting and brushed brass accents brighten the space and reflect the grand appointments throughout the rest of the home.
Our mission at Elsewhere is to curate inviting spaces for gathering and slowing your pace.
