Best Fall Foliage Routes in the Berkshires and Great Barrington

Great Barrington Mass Property Living Space

As summer begins to wind down, we turn our attention towards the types of things you can only truly experience during the autumn season. Autumn is a beautiful time of year in the Berkshires, as the breathtaking views and scenery take on a whole new appearance. We’ve already covered some excellent places to go for a hike here in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and the surrounding area, but today we’ll highlight a few of the best fall foliage routes to hit up on your stay this season.

Jacob’s Ladder Scenic Byway

Our first suggestion is that you visit the Jacob’s Ladder Scenic Byway. This 35-mile stretch of beautiful scenery will not only give you views of the stunning fall foliage you’re looking for, but also take you right by a host of other great places to visit in the Berkshires, including quarries and forests that will only enhance your autumn season viewing. You can get a view of the trail itself as well as plenty of these POIs on the Jacob’s Ladder Trail website.

Mount Greylock State Reservation & Scenic Byway

Another incredible scenic byway in the area to check out is located at the Mount Greylock State Reservation, sitting at the highest elevation in the state of Massachusetts. You can visit the wilderness state park for some incredible fall foliage and views itself, then go for a stroll on its 16-mile paved scenic byway to truly take in the sights of the season. At its elevation, this might offer the most breathtaking views in the state, with sightlines stretching 70 miles out to five neighboring states.

U.S. Route 7

One final recommendation we have while you’re staying at our location Elsewhere in the Berkshires is to simply hop onto U.S. Route 7 right here in Great Barrington. Route 7 stretches from Connecticut to Vermont and passes right through town, so you can hop on there and follow it to a number of different attractions and restaurants to make a full day of fun and autumn sightseeing combined.
