Fun Things to do in Tybee Island near Savannah, GA

Our property Elsewhere on Tybee is an excellent destination for your perfect beach vacation, but simply taking a dip in the ocean or lying out in the sun aren’t the only fun things you can do while spending time on Tybee Island near Savannah, Georgia. There are plenty of great places to check out and activities in which to participate just waiting for you to hit them up, so we figured we’d detail a few of our favorites for you here before your stay!

Tybee Island Light Station and Museum

If you’re a fan of lighthouses, then you’ll be pleased to learn that the oldest and tallest one in Georgia is located right here in Tybee Island. With a trio of Light Keeper cottages in the area and a 145-foot tower, this lighthouse has over two centuries of history here on the island. You can learn about different eras of that history by visiting the Tybee Island Light Station and Museum for yourself.

Local Dolphin Tours

Dolphins are incredible creatures, and there are plenty of them in the nearby ocean. So many, in fact, that you can find multiple companies that give dolphin tour boat rides and other fun adventures right here in the area. A couple of our favorite companies are Captain Mike’s Dolphin Tours and Captain Derek’s Dolphin Adventure Tour.

Fort Pulaski National Monument

If you love history, then you’ll certainly want to visit the Fort Pulaski National Monument. Fort Pulaski was a confederate garrison during the Civil War, but the Union army forced them to surrender with a siege of rifled cannons. You can see what still stands of the garrison as well as the evidence of siege all over its exterior walls.

Other Nature Tours & Exploration

Dolphins aren’t the only magnificent pieces of nature you can explore here in Tybee Island and the surrounding area. There are all types of nature tours you can go on, such as those hosted by Sundial Charters, which will give you a breathtaking glimpse at the beauty of the natural world around here. Whether with an official tour company or by yourself, you can also explore Little Tybee Island, a natural heritage preserve consisting of over 6,500 acres of gorgeous land and a must-see activity for anyone visiting the area.
